About UP Sports Department

Sports has always been an integral part of Uttar Pradesh’s culture and important aspect of life such that we could say that Uttar Pradesh has a rich sports heritage like it’s cultural heritage from where various new sports persons of different disciplines have emerged out excellently and have resulted in glory of the State in realms of sports. Thus, to grow and encourage promising talent in Uttar Pradesh, a Sports Department has been setup by Government of Uttar Pradesh that solely works to bring about qualitative improvement in the performance of sports persons by offering them all the essential facilities to excel in their respective sports.

Indeed, Sports Department is fully dedicated in supporting emerging sports persons in refining their skills by utilizing various infrastructural features supplied by the department like stadiums, multi-purpose halls, swimming pools, badminton, tennis and volleyball courts, gymnasiums, fields for games like hockey and football, athletics tracks and many more. Therefore, with proper utilization of these facilities offered by the Sports Department, many young talent of Uttar Pradesh have given par excellence performances and secured exceptional positions in various national and international competitions, reaching new heights of success in the world of sports making the State proud.

Apparently, to offer adequate opportunities to the emerging sports persons and to enhance their skills efficiently, Sports Department has set up three sports colleges namely Guru Gobind Singh Sports College in Lucknow, Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College in Gorakhpur and Safai Sports College in Safai (Etawah). All the three sports colleges are equipped with modern equipment, adequate infrastructural facilities and expert trainers. They are experienced and skilled to train promising sports persons effectively refining their skills. Along with this, Sports Department also has a provision of 36 residential sports hostels that are capable of accommodating and catering 740 players of 16 sports in 18 districts.

Moreover, Sports department has been doing exceptionally well in promoting and encouraging sports persons of traditional sports like hockey, football, Kabaddi and many more.
