Several schemes are being implemented by the Sports Department in Uttar Pradesh to provide opportunities to promote sports programmes and bring about qualitative improvement in the performance of sportspersons. The Sports Department is creating a wide range of infrastructural facilities in different districts of the state to meet this objective. These facilities include stadium, multi-purpose sports complex, swimming pool, badminton, tennis and volleyball court, gymnasium hall, fields for games like hockey and football, athletics track etc. As a result of these schemes, there has been considerable expansion in facilities for sportspersons and availability of sports establishments.
The Sports Department works in close coordination with its associate departments, Education Department, Youth Welfare Department, autonomous sports associations and other sports organizers for training, competitions and implementation of other schemes.
Among training programmes, there are several result-oriented schemes of sports hostels and Sports College. In order to provide benefit to maximum number of talented youth, 36 residential sports hostels are being run in stadiums in 18 districts meant for 740 sportspersons in 16 sports. Players are making proper use of these facilities and bringing glory to the state and the country at national and international levels.
