Sports & Youth Welfare Department, ,
Main Building Secretariat, Lucknow
Various schemes are being implemented by the sports department in the state from the point of view of the development of sports programs and providing the appropriate opportunities to the sportspersons of the state for their enhancement. For the fulfillment of these, various necessary infrastructure facilities like Stadium, Multipurpose Sports Hall, Swimming Pool, Badminton, Tennis, Volleyball Court, Gymnasium Hall, grounds for games like Football and Hockey, Athletics track etc. has been established in various districts of the state by the department. As a result of these schemes, a considerable expansion has been achieved in the area of availability of sports establishments along with other sports facilities to players.
Presently, Sports Department is working in coordination with its associated departments, Education department, Youth Welfare Department, autonomous sports associations and other sports organizers for conducting training, competition and other plans.
Sports Hostel and Sports College are the significant schemes amongst the training schemes. With the aim of availing the maximum benefits to the talented players of the state through these schemes 44 residential sports hostels for 890 sportspersons of 16 sports are operated at the stadiums in 19 districts of the state. Along with this, with the aim of providing adequate opportunity and skilled training to newcomer players 03 sports colleges namely Guru Govind Singh Sports College (Lucknow), Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College( Gorakhpur) and Sports College Saifai (Etawah) are operated by the department in which the opportunity to become skilled player is provided to players from Class VI onwards. Here national and international level sportspersons are being prepared. Besides this, players of these residential Sports Hostel, Sports College are provided free facilities of fooding, lodging, medication, sports kit, equipment, education etc. Thus, by the proper utilization of these facilities players are glorifying the name of state and country both at national and international level.
Therefore, keeping in mind the above priorities of the department, in financial year 2017-18 a budget of Rs.13226.54 lakhs in favor of capital and Rs. 9114.78 lakhs in favour of revenue has been provisioned. Although the sports department is not directly connected to the employment generating schemes, yet I am glad to inform that by establishment of sports infrastructure on mass scale, a huge number of employment days are also being created for the people of the weaker sections of the society. Along with this, there is also a provision of appointment of sportspersons who have won medals in international games on gazetted posts in 11 departments of the state through direct recruitment.
Additionally, Sports Department is committed to award prizes to national and international level medal winners and to provide financial assistance to the old, weak and disadvantaged former players of the state, under which cash prizes are given to the medal winners at national / international level.
For the development of sports and providing better training to budding players, a policy has been created to develop Sports Academies through private participation in the state. Under this, there is a provision of making 01 to 05 acres of land available to Sports association/international players free of cost who have participated in Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian, Worldcup (competitions that held once in every 04 years).
Besides this, as a financial assistance to the old, weak and disadvantaged former players of the state, a provision of providing Rs.4000/- to state level players, Rs.6,000/- to national level players and Rs.10,000/- to international players has been made by the department . Along with this, there also a provision for providing financial assistance to state players that are awarded with Arjun Award and Dronacharya Award and Sports Ratna Award and with the point of view of achievements in the realms of sports, there is also a provision of providing a financial assistance of Rs.20, 000/- per month to players awarded with Padamshree and Padambhushan.
I am not only hopeful but confident that by receiving the benefits of the various schemes implemented by the current regime state would reach new heights in the realms of sports.
