Important plans like Sports Establishment Development, Competition, Training and hostel are being run by the Sports Department for the promotion of sports in the state. Training camps are being conducted in all the stadiums of the state through officers posted in the department and additional part-time trainers.

In order to provide free training to the boys/ girls from a very young age, the Government has established 44 hostels for 16 games in 19 districts and Sports Colleges has been established in Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Saifai (Etawah). where facility of study along with sports training is also available.

Sports colleges have been established to train the players at very young age with an objective to perform well in national and international competitions. In this order, three Sports Colleges are operating in the state i.e., Guru Govind Singh Sports College, Lucknow, Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College, Gorakhpur and Saifai (Etawah). Where the opportunity to become a skilled player from Class-06 is being provided, where national and international level players are being prepared. Players are being provided with the facility of free residential accommodation , food, education, medical, sports kit, equipment etc. Sportsmen are glorifying the name of the country and the state at the national and international level, by properly utilizing these facilities.

Considering the above priorities of the department, there is a provisional budget for the year 2017-2018, of Rs 13226.54 lakh in the Capital side and Rs 9114.78 lakh in the revenue side.

Players of the state, who earn medals at the national / international level are being encouraged by rewarding them. Under which arrangements have been made to provide cash prizes to medal winners in International Level-Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Afro-Asian Games, World Cup and National Championship, to encourage emerging players.

There is a facility of providing financial assistance to the elderly, physically weak and sorrow stricken former famous players of the state. Arrangements have been made to provide financial assistance of Rs. 20,000 / - per month to the players of state awarded for the achievements in the sports world, with the Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award and the Khel Ratna award and also Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan receipients.

Sports associations / clubs etc. are provided financial assistance to organize sports competitions in the state., and free reservation facility is provided to the stadium for the competitions organized by the sports associations for normal and physically disabled players.

In order to provide better training to the budding players and sports development, the policy of developing sports academies with private participation in the state has been promulgated, Under which the land will be made available for the development of maximum one academy for each sport in recognized games. For Sports Academy, generally for indoor sports 01 to 02 acres and 03 to 05 acres of land for outdoor sports is provided free of cost to Sports associations/ international level players who had competed in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian, World Cup (once every 04 years Competition).

I am confident that with the encouragement of the government and the cooperation of all, sports will be developed in the state and with these schemes the players of the state will get the maximum benefit and will bring glory to the nation and the state.
