With the sole aim of development of sports and encouragement of sportspersons in Uttar Pradesh, various sports services has been established in various districts of the state like Stadiums, Multi-purpose Halls, Swimming Pools, Badminton Court, Tennis Court, Volleyball Court, Gymnasium Hall, Hockey and Football ground, athletic tracks and many more. Along with this, efforts are also being made to provide other sports facilities also to the sportspersons of the state.       

Presently, Sports Department is working in coordination with its associated departments, Education department, Youth Welfare Department, autonomous sports associations and other sports organizers for conducting training, competition and other plans.

The talented players of the state are provided training through newly established sports infrastructure and with the aim of benefiting more and more sports players 44 residential sports hostels for 890 sportspersons of 16 sports are operated at the stadiums in 19 districts of the state. Along with this, with the aim of providing adequate opportunity and skilled training to newcomer players 03 sports colleges namely Guru Govind Singh Sports College (Lucknow), Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College( Gorakhpur) and Sports College Saifai (Etawah) are operated by the department. Players of these residential Sports Hostel, Sports College are provided free facilities of fooding, lodging, medication, sports kit, equipment, education etc.  Thus, by the proper utilization of these facilities players are glorifying the name of state and country both at national and international level. Besides this, in these colleges an opportunity to become skilled player is provided to players from Class VI onwards in order to effectively prepare players for national and international level.

Therefore, keeping in mind the above priorities of the department, in financial year 2017-18 a budget of Rs.13226.54 lakhs in favor of capital and Rs.9114.78 lakhs in favour of revenue has been provisioned.

Additionally, a provision has been made to award national international level medal winners by the department, under which it was decided to award Olympics, 2016 gold medallists in singles category with Rs.6.oo crore, Silver medallists with Rs.4.00 crore and bronze medallists with Rs.2.00 crore. Whereas in team games category, gold medalists were decided to be  awarded with Rs.3 crores, silver medalists with Rs.2.00 crores and bronze medalists with Rs.1.00 crore and players who participated in the aforesaid games were decided to be rewarded with  Rs.10 lacs as an encouragement. Along with this, there is also a provision of awarding  Laxman/Rani Laxmibai Award to the players of the state who have performed excellently in national and international level, in which awarded players are also rewarded with a cash prize of Rs.3,11,000/-.

Besides this, as a financial assistance to the old, weak and disadvantaged former players of the state, a provision of providing Rs.4000/- to state level players, Rs.6, 000/- to national level players and Rs.10, 000/- to international players has been made by the department. Along with this, there also a provision for providing financial assistance to state players that are awarded with Arjun Award and Dronacharya Award and Sports Ratna Award and with the point of view of achievements in the realms of sports, there is also a provision of providing a financial assistance of Rs.20, 000/- per month to players awarded with Padamshree and Padambhushan.

I am not only hopeful but confident that by receiving the benefits of the various schemes implemented by the current regime state would reach new heights in the realms of sports.
